In 2000, Maya Cinemas became a chartered company. Its mission” to Develop, build, and own and operate modern megaplex movie theaters in Latino-dominant communities, especially in the underserved markets. The thrust then and now is to offer family-friendly entertainment fare, as well as family-friendly facilities, amenities and services.
In 2003, Moctesuma Esparza, its founder, opened the first Maya Cinema in Salinas, California. Currently, the chain has several locations in California, as well as in Pittsburgh, Bakersfield, Fresno, and Delano.
Entertainment and Culinary Fare
Maya Cinemas ensure that the first-run Hollywood movies shown on their screens provide the best possible entertainment experience through state-of-the-art cinema technology. The Maya MPX experience is among the best, too, thanks to the large silver screen that provides the clearest, crispest, and brightest images; the chain shows both 2D and 3D movies on its screens.
The theaters are also equipped with laser projection technology that has excellent color range and saturation. Many customers even remark that even with 2D movies, the scenes and its characters seem to jump out at them! The large screens are also meticulously maintained so there are no ugly spots and stains on the scenes – and it definitely contributes to the great movie-going experience.
But since movies are also about the sound, Maya Cinemas are equipped with an incredible audio system, the Maya MPX sound. Basically, the guests will hear the sounds on the movies with amazing clarity, even the whispered conversations of the characters. The 360-degree sound experience comes from the strategic placement of the sound surround speakers around the theater.
Many of the Maya Cinemas theaters are equipped with Dolby Atmos technology. According to management, the technology allows guests to feel like they are inside the movie, thanks to the feeling that the sounds of the scenes are so realistic.
But for customers who want the actual feeling of being in on the action, so to speak, there’s the D-Box Motion Technology at Maya Cinemas! The technology adds motion, usually up and down as well as side-to-side, to the movie-going experience so there’s a certain modern magic to it. The seats move at certain parts of the movie in accordance with the experiences of the characters on screen, such as during a car chase.
Note: The ticket prices for D-Box movies are higher but worth it.
If you want to give the gift of a Maya Cinemas experience to your family and friends, you can give them gift cards. These gifts are great for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, graduations, and Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days, among others. These are redeemable either for admission tickets or for purchases at the concession stands (i.e., food and drinks), as well as purchased directly from the theaters.
Did you know that Maya Cinemas also offer party packages for groups? The Director’s Package is a great package for your birthday parties, anniversaries and other special occasions, or when you simply feel like treating your family and friends, to a great movie. The package comes with a movie of your choice, a kids’ combo concession tray, and a party room that can be used before or after the movie.
For corporations and other organizations, the group activity tickets are great options as performance incentives and rewards. These are available in packs of 50 tickets or more, which can be purchased at a discounted rate. These tickets are also great for students and clients, as well as for neighbors.
Maya Cinemas has a new loyalty program, which the management says will be launched in a few weeks. The old members of the existing loyalty program will be able to convert their existing reward points when the new program is launched. We suggest becoming a member because of the membership benefits from discounts to updates.
The theaters also offer its customers a wide range of food and drinks for in-theater dining. The Coca Cola Freestyle has more than 100 choices in flavors so there’s always the mix of the familiar and exotic for everybody. The Orville Redenbacher offers pizzas in several flavors, too.
After or before the movies, you can hop into the Energi Game Center for more entertainment opportunities. Bring the kids along as they are sure to enjoy the games here.
