History
On November 1, 1935, Ben Marcus founded Marcus Corporation when he purchased a movie theater in Ripon, Wisconsin; the first theater consisted of a single screen, which continues to this day as Campus Cinema, a second-run theater geared toward Ripon College students. This was the humble beginnings of one of the leading lodging and entertainment companies in the United States.
Movies and Dining
The world-class facilities at every Marcus Theatres location attracts the movie-going public. The facilities include spacious stadium seating, crisp digital sound and clear visual images through the 72-wide UltraScreens, and delicious food and drinks. The major Midwest markets, such as Milwaukee and Madison in Wisconsin, Chicago in Illinois, and Columbus in Ohio are, indeed, grateful for the top-notch entertainment services.
Of course, going to the movies in the 21st century isn’t just about watching the movies. For this reason, Marcus Theatres locations offer a wide range of delicious food and drinks for patrons who want to eat before, during and after the movies.
Customers can choose from several concession treats from popcorn to soda, as well as choose from the menu for more filling snacks and meals. You can order directly from the concession stands or order in advance for pick-up later. You may also enjoy the in-theater dining experience, a great choice if you want the dinner-and-a-show experience.
Guests can also relax while waiting for the next screening in the lobby or lounge. The lobby has a more casual feel so it’s usually popular with families while the lounge has a more elegant feel suitable for couples and the like.
The in-house theater restaurants include:
- Zaffiro’s and Zaffiro’s Express, which offer several types of handmade thin-crust pizzas, sandwiches, and appetizers
- Take Five Lounge, which has appetizers, entrees and drinks for either eating in the lounge or into the auditorium
- Reel Sizzle, which has a 1950s diner-inspired ambiance offers classic menu items
- Big Screen Bistro and Cinedine, which offers a full-service restaurant, in-theatre dining experience. The extensive menu includes salads, sandwiches, appetizers, entrées, and desserts as well as beers, wines and soft drinks. Your orders will be delivered directly to your theater seats by the waitstaff. (These restaurants are only available in selected Marcus Theatres locations)
- Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, which has several flavors of ice cream, sundaes, shakes and malts on the menu
- Stone Creek Coffee Roasters, which offers pick-me-uppers for customers who want the best in delicious coffee; seasonal blends are available
The chain of Marcus Theatres is also known for its value pricing. The ticket prices are already on the reasonable range but the chain’s management continues to find ways to give its customers more affordable prices.
Active military personnel with valid identification can watch movies at a discount. Customers can avail of the SuperSaver Value Days, such as the $5 Tuesdays, the $6 Student Thursdays (available only in certain locations; valid identification required), Early Bird Movies ($6 price before 11 AM in certain locations only), and Young at Heart (for people 60 years old and above). Terms and conditions apply to these Value Days.
Marcus Theatres has established a reputation for showing the best in mainstream movies, especially from the Hollywood movie industry. But its screens also show a wide range of alternative fare and, thus, the chain appeals to more people than your usual movie theater.
The alternative fare includes the Metropolitan Opera including live sessions, special interviews and behind-the-scenes features. The Met Opera shows are live on Saturdays with encore presentations on Wednesdays.
There are also independent films chosen for their challenging and engaging content; this is dubbed as the Indie Focus program. The Film Series showcase back-to-back movies in a series. The theaters also show live concerts and sporting events.
Regular patrons can join the Magical Movie Rewards Loyalty Program. Here, members can enjoy the exclusive offers from discounts and free concession treats to updates on new shows. You will find it easy to join, too, so we suggest doing so as soon as possible.
Marcus Theatres also provides its customers with special needs the opportunity to enjoy the movies. The chain uses sensory-specific technologies, such as headphones and closed captioning for the hearing-impaired, as well as offer several sensory-specific showings. Even first-run films are offered with these sensory-specific needs in mind!
The Reel Movies for Real Needs program is also geared toward people with special needs. The program includes the use of brighter lights and lower sounds resulting in a low-stress environment.
