There is no denying the fact that this is the golden age of the superhero film. Beginning with the X-Men in the early 2000s to Sam Raimi’s Spider Man, the Dark Knight trilogy and now the MCU, it’s a great time to be a fan of comic book superheroes. Ant-Man and the Wasp

The sequel to 2015’s Ant Man finds Scott Lang teaming up with Hope Van Dyne AKA the Wasp to rescue her mother Janet Van Dyne who’s trapped in the Quantum Realm. In addition the pair also need to contend with Ghost who’s bound to cause trouble.
Ant Man and the Wasp stars Paul Rudd as Ant Man, Evangeline Lily as the Wasp and also includes Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Hannah John Kamen will portray the villain Ghost.
Venom

This R rated film is going to start off Sony’s planned Spider Man universe, so it’s not part of the MCU. The film about the popular anti-hero is based on the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic arcs and features Carnage as the main villain. Tom Hardy stars in the film along with Michelle Williams, Jenny Slade and Riz Ahmed.
Aquaman

Fresh from appearing in Justice League, Aquaman’s solo film sees Jason Momoa reprising the titular character along with Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman and Patrick Wilson who portrays Orm, Aquaman’s half brother and nemesis. Aquaman is directed by James Wan, who is best known for his work in The Conjuring and Furious 7.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Dark Phoenix is based on the classic X-Men storyline. This sequel to Apocalypse also aims to do justice to this story after the mishandling in X Men The Last Stand. Most of the X-Men cast are coming back, and there are rumors Jessica Chastain will be the villain.
X-Men Dark Phoenix stars Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Tye Sheridan.
Captain Marvel

The first female led film in the MCU, Captain Marvel will focus on the origin of pilot Carol Danvers and how she gained her powers. The film is set in the 1990s and will feature the Kree-Skrull war, a young Phil Coulson and a two eyed Nick Fury.
Before the film hits Cineworld and other theaters, it’s worth pointing out that Captain Marvel was supposed to have appeared in Age of Ultron but Marvel didn’t want her to appear until he full story had been told.
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson and Jude Law as Mar-Vell.
Shazam!

The film originally included Black Adam to be played Dwayne Johnson, but WB decided to give Black Adam his own solo film. Directed by David Sandberg whose credits include Annabelle Creation and Lights Out, the film tells the story of young Billy Batson who has the power to change into the powerful being known as Shazam.
Shazam stars Zachary Levi, Assher Angel, Grace Futon and Jack Dylan Grazer.

Its release date has been pushed back numerous times and there have been several reshoots done to make the movie, according to insiders, scarier. Unlike the other X-Men films, New Mutants focuses on horror and will be rated R like Deadpool and Logan. If the trailer is any indication it’s going to be something different.
Wonder Woman 2

Far and away the best received among all the DCEU films, Wonder Woman 2 sees Gal Gadot return, and this time the movie is set in the 1980s. Patty Jenkins will again direct the film and Kristen Wig will play Cheetah.
Those are the biggest, most anticipated superhero films for 2018 and 2019. We’ve already seen lots of excellent comic book movies this year but there’s more to come. Truly now is an excellent time to be a fan.
